Comin' to you live from.....
Phnom Penh Cambodia! Ladies and gents, it's a crrrrazy city out there - one where if you pause for longer than a second on anything you WILL get ripped. it ain't no Kathmandu folks!
Ye, I have been here for all of 24 hours and have managed to get ripped off about 10 times now! Live and learn folks, live and learn. The official moneyhere is the riel, but let me tell you, most prices are quoted in USD - even in the supermarket.
So far, I've managed to make friends (well pets) with the numerous rats, cockraoches and lizards that inhabit my hotel though!!!
Actually, it isn't that bad... I'm just joshing you! It's all true, but far from unmanageable. The most difficult thing is the 36 degree heat....
So far, I've made it to the Royal Palace, Wat Ounlom (or something like that), drinking beer by the river, and the oh-so-disgusting-but-fascinating Russian market. Deep fried spiders - you got it. dehydrated, smoked pigs of all ages - yep. Various bird being slaughtered before your eyes - for sure. having a bag of fermenting fish accidentatlly dropped on your feet - of course! by fat it is THE craziest market/area in the world that I have been to. SO MANY people/trcuks/motorbikes/cars/rickshaws - all aiming for one thing: YOU.
Quite fun, actually!!! Tomorrow I visit the kids at the garbage dump!!!!!
Yes, it has been a long time since I've written! SO much has been happening in my life though!!!!! Planning this trip, organizing fundraising and the collection of 25 kilos of rubber boots for the kids at the dump, planning my sister's trip, graduation at the JHS, figuring out how to import Yoshi to Canada next year.... and this was all in the 2 weeks before I left!
Forgive me - I'll try to be better in the future!!!
Off to a delicious dinner of fried spring rolls filled with mystery meat. HINT to all you spring roll fans - amazing dipping sauce alert - sweet chili sause and lots of garlic - YUM YUM!!!
:) stay tuned for more adventures from the field...!
